Whats For Dinner Wednesday?
This week its a SHAKSHUKA SKILLET!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve seen this dish all over social media & on restaurant menus. I’ve never had it before because I wasn’t so sure about the combo of eggs & tomato sauce. But oh boy! I’m glad we tried it because ITS SOOOO DELISH! It’s going into the regular rotation! Mmmmm.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We looked at recipes all around the web and settled on making a SPICY version with hot paprika, toasty cumin, and fiery harissa ... and of course, we added lots of KALE!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💃Shake your Shakshuka:
1) Pre-heat oven to 400º.
2) On stovetop, heat skillet & oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, harissa, yellow bell pepper & kale and cook until softened, ~10-15 minutes. Add tomatoes with juice and allow mixture to cook until thickened, ~10 minutes.
3) Crack eggs into skillet over the tomato mixture. Season each egg with salt & pepper. Transfer skillet to pre-heated oven and bake until eggs are set, ~10 minutes.
4) Remove from oven and top with feta cheese and fresh cilantro. Serve over brown rice or with crusty whole grain bread.

One of the earliest indications that I was going to love food was when I was a kid, I thought the best part of The Godfather books was when they talked about eating linguine with clams and I begged my parents for the next year to take me to old school Italian joints just to order this dish. Additionally, someone asked me recently what American food was and I would argue this dish is quintessentially American (Italian American yes but still American) these days. It’s the kind of dish that you find in classic Italian eateries that were the Chinese food places before there were even Chinese food places. This version is from @dylansoystercellar (and may not currently be on the menu but I’m sure it will be back) and I think it’s spaghetti instead of linguine but you get what I’m saying. It is just pure straightforward comfort. But, don’t ask me, H, the Jersey boy part of @pandheats said this dish reminded him of growing up. ‘Nuff said. Buen día!! Hoy les traemos este postre de bananas que nos encanta, más fácil y rico no puede ser!! Vamos a la receta:

POSTRE FRÍO DE BANANA

Ingredientes:

Galletitas tipo Porteñitas  2 paquetes (280 gr. aprox.)
Bananas  3 u. (medianas)
Dulce de leche  c/n.
Crema de leche  300 gr.
Azúcar  45 gr.

Preparación:

Batir la crema con el azúcar hasta que se formen picos y reservar. En un molde poner un tercio de las galletitas, previamente romperlas con las manos y cubrir toda la base. En un bowl, calentar el dulce de leche unos segundos (puede ser a baño María también). Esparcirlo por encima de la base de galletitas. Luego cubrir el dulce de leche con la mitad de las bananas cortadas en rodajas y luego volcar por encima la mitad de la crema batida. Repetir la capa de galletitas, luego dulce de leche, bananas y finalizar con la crema restante.
Llevar a la heladera tapado, mínimo unas 4 horas. Retirarlo 10 minutos antes de servir y listo para disfrutar!
