Do you love your Fasted Cardio?
In the gym environment I regularly see people coming in to do their “fasted cardio” or hear people talking about it being the best way to cut weight. The question is, does the literature support these claims? Could it simply be a case of people using anecdotal evidence to support a cause-and-effect relationship between weight loss and fasted cardio without solid supporting data? Perhaps it is more a case of consistently eating a balanced diet with a caloric deficit and exercising? I would suggest that until further evidence is provided the “fasted cardio” claims should be used with caution. The following study certainly raises more questions against such practices than it does support them.

Certainly worth considering if like many you dread doing your early morning fasted cardio but believe that you MUST do it.

Barefoot training ... a conversation all on its one but today I want to talk specifically on the benefits of strengthening your big toe strength as we age. When I was in Vancouver I had the privilege to train with a very knowledgeable Chiropractor who during our workout had also 5 of his clients training with us. We took some time after talking together about the benefits of training kettlebell barefoot ! Now for today’s topicI wanted to look at in our aging population but being mindful if we look at it prior to our aging adults we can be proactive instead of reactive! Research shows that there is no difference in the quadriceps & ankle strength between falling adults but confirms that the toe strength is responsible for falls. Exercises like the ones I have demonstrated - the full mobility swing and specifically switching that wgt (kb) from one hand to the other - mimicking the movements the movements that initiate a fall. So when you train barefoot you get to really focus on increasing the pressure beneath the big toe (hallux) A good test to determine your toe strength is The Vele Forward Lean Method- maintaining spinal & lower extremity alignment while leaning forward as far as possible. While controlling how far you can lean forward by pushing down with your toes!
